It seems that Facebook is aiming to compete with Google as it is currently experimenting with its own search engine. A search engine from the largest social network will try to keep users on the platform when they want to perform a search.
This practically means more clicks, and more clicks mean greater financial profits.
It all started with a rumor that several iOS users were going to notice some changes, but the company has already confirmed that the feature will be available very soon.
“We’re piloting a new way to add a link that’s already published on Facebook to your posts and comments,” a Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch on Sunday.
And as the social network spokesperson described it, users will soon start seeing a new option that says “Add a link.” If someone clicks on the link, they will be able to choose from an impressively large number of related posts that Facebook has collected.
Users can thus have a preview of the website they have chosen and then share it on the platform.
This could be a huge blow to Google as it means that Facebook users will now be able to use the platform's built-in search engine when they want to share an article.
Publishing on Facebook from a mobile app is quite difficult, so the new feature is more than welcome, as it will allow you to post links much more easily, without having to go from one website to another.
Additionally, it appears that search results will be based on popularity among users and the number of times the article has been shared, meaning we will be able to get relevant content very quickly.
This feature follows Facebook 's decision to host news content through a partnership it is preparing to enter into with various media outlets. The new partnership will allow users to read articles without having to leave Facebook.
The feature is already available to a few users in the US, and Facebook has not provided additional information on when it plans to release the new feature in other countries.
