Russian hackers have reportedly breached the White House computer systems. As CNN, they managed to gain access to President Obama's undisclosed schedule.
US officials say it was one of the most sophisticated cyberattacks ever carried out on the country's government networks.
The White House says the hackers only managed to access unclassified information, and that the attack has been mitigated.
Such a statement could very well be made solely to reassure public opinion. However, according to the video we publish below, the White House announcement may stand.
The worrying thing is that the attack started months ago, when hackers managed to gain access to the State Department systems with a simple phishing attack.
A government employee is reported to have clicked on a fake link that came with an email message and contained malicious software in the attached files. The malware allowed the attackers to infiltrate the network of thousands of computers of the State Department with great ease. It is no coincidence that security experts are more concerned about the human error factor rather than the systems themselves.
In the video below, Deputy National Security Advisor of the Obama administration, Ben Rhodes, states that the White House uses a separate network to transport classified information.
In this case, we can say that indeed governments, intelligence agencies, and large corporations use different networks for the trafficking of sensitive information.
