Mozilla Foundation supports Tor Project with 12 new nodes

In November 2014, the Mozilla foundation announced the start of a partnership with the Tor Project. For those of you who are not aware, the Tor Project allows connections that bypass any censorship. By connecting to the Tor Project's servers, you can access the internet anonymously.Mozilla Tor Project

The Mozilla Foundation has begun supporting the Tor network with 12 new high-speed Tor relays (nodes). All relay connection points are powered by three HP ProLiant G6 SL170z servers with Juniper EX4200 network switches and the following features:

  • 48GB RAM
  • 2 x Xeon L5640 CPUs
  • 21Gbps NIC

The Mozilla Foundation has allocated an additional 10 Gb/s channels supporting this high-speed internet infrastructure, while separating it from their own network infrastructure. This will ensure that Mozilla services remain unaffected by potential issues with the Tor network.

In the future, the Mozilla Foundation has promised to improve Firefox to be more Tor-friendly. Mozilla will use parts of the Tor infrastructure in future versions of the Firefox browser for better end-user protection.
