According to Tod Beardsly, from security firm Rapid7, all versions of Android older than Android 4.4 KitKathave a very serious security flaw. Google is shifting the blame to phone manufacturers.
This security hole allows hackers to easily attack the user of such a device, and is located in WebView, a part of the system that allows applications to view online content.
According to Android usage statistics, devices running Android 4.3 and earlier currently account for 60% of Android devices, approximately 939 million.
What is surprising, however, is that Google does not intend to release an update for these millions of devices, mainly because they are old versions of Android.
As it turns out, it's up to manufacturers to address and fix this security gap.
