Detekt Anti-spyware tool from Amnesty International

Detekt: A tool aimed at journalists and human rights activists who want their computers safe from known surveillance spyware was launched by Amnesty International, in collaboration with organizations from the technology and human rights spaces.

Detect

According to Amnesty International, Detekt is the first publicly available tool that detects "branded" spyware on computers, some of which are used by government agencies.

“Governments are increasingly using dangerous and sophisticated technology that allows them to read the private emails of activists and journalists and remotely activate the computer’s camera or microphone in order to secretly record their activities. They are using the technology in a cowardly attempt to avoid criticism from possible disclosure,” says Marek Marczynski, Amnesty International’s senior officer.

"Detekt is a simple tool that will notify activists of such intrusions so they can take action. It is a counterattack against governments that use information obtained through surveillance to arbitrarily detain, illegally arrest and even torture human rights defenders and journalists," he adds.

Detekt was developed by Claudio Guarnieri and is launched by Amnesty International in partnership with Digitale Gesellschaft, the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Privacy International.
