Facebook announced today that it has acquired PrivateCore , a server security company. Terms of the financial deal were not disclosed.

The company was founded by security engineers from VMware and Google. It is based in Palo Alto, California and develops security software for servers. The vCage they developed can be used to protect servers from persistent malware, unauthorized physical access, and malicious hardware devices, in order to reduce the risk of applications running off-premises or hosted in cloud environments.
PrivateCore CEO Oded Horovitz announced in a blog post that Facebook plans to acquire the company, which will use PrivateCore’s technology.
“Since the beginning, we have been working tirelessly to develop technology to protect servers from malware threats, unauthorized physical access, and malicious hardware devices,” Horovitz said. “Working with Facebook, there is a tremendous opportunity to continue our shared vision at an incredibly large scale. I believe PrivateCore’s technology and expertise will help support Facebook’s mission to help make the world more open and connected in a safe and reliable way.”
