Kaspersky Lab is introducing a new portal that hosts a range of uniquely available statistics, which capture a real-time picture of the digital world and its users. The company’s new portal brings together statistical information from around the world on what people do online, what devices they use and what threats they face.
The kaspersky-cyberstat.com portal focuses on digital threats. For example, it identifies which malware is currently most active and what damage it can cause to users and their devices. It also assesses the most widespread online threats and shows the countries that were most attacked in the last month, as well as the number of different malware samples detected each day.
The new portal also features statistics on the total number of Internet users worldwide, as well as the number of new Internet users. Among other things, visitors to the site can see how many emails are sent worldwide during the year, the number of blog posts or tweets that were uploaded in the last 24 hours, how many new mobile phones are sold each day, and how many websites fall victim to cyberattacks.
“Every day, the number of Internet users and devices is growing significantly, as is – unfortunately – the number and variety of digital threats. The number of malicious applications for mobile devices alone that we have collected exceeds 11 million,” commented Sergey Novikov, Deputy Director of the Global Research and Analysis Team at Kaspersky Lab. “By creating an accurate picture of the digital world with statistics from our own and third-party sources, we tried to show that the digital world is expanding at an incredible pace. This growth not only offers new opportunities, but also brings new risks,” he added.
Part of the statistics presented in the new portal come from the cloud-based Kaspersky Security Network service, which provides information on new threats in real time. These threats are detected by Kaspersky Lab products as well as from other sources, such as the online statistical services “worldometers.info” and “realityclock.com”.
The company's antivirus analysts around the world process information about new digital threats. Working in different time zones, Kaspersky Lab specialists constantly monitor the Internet for new threats. As soon as they are detected, new threats are added to the antivirus databases of all Kaspersky Lab products. It is recalled that recently, Kaspersky Lab also presented the interactive digital threat map – an online service that presents digital incidents from around the world in real time.
