Reuters – Apple Inc and Google Inc’s Motorola Mobility unit have agreed to drop lawsuits over their smartphone patents.
In a joint statement filed Friday, the companies said they had reached a settlement. This will end the litigation and drop all lawsuits they have filed. The strange thing is that in the joint press release issued by Google and Apple, they say they will cooperate in certain areas.
“Apple and Google also agreed to collaborate on certain areas of patent reform,” the statement said.
Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who called Android a “stolen product” and started the endless legal war, probably won’t be sleeping well.
Google and Apple have informed a federal appeals court in Washington that their cases should be dismissed. However, the settlement will not apply to Apple's lawsuit against Samsung Electronics.
