As we had predicted in a previous article, the Greek Wikipedia, last week exceeded the important limit of 100,000 articles. And this limit is indeed important, firstly for “prestige” reasons since the Greek Wikipedia now figures in the “B! category” of 100,000+ articles.
This is now clearly visible in the relevant Table with the Wikipedia articles in each language
So the first reason is purely psychological and we hope that this event will give the impetus for even more effort, so that the Greek Wikipedia edition can achieve even higher goals. 500,000 or even 1,000,000 articles may seem like “unattainable dreams” today, but, as a people, we have proven many times in the past that with everything we do seriously, we excel.
The other reason is credibility. It has been proven in practice that as the number of articles increases, so does the credibility of Wikipedia. And this is because in order for the number of articles to increase significantly, more and more people need to be involved with Wikipedia, which means more editors.
This is what Asaf Bartov, the representative of the Wikimedia Foundation, emphasized in his speech at the Concert Hall, exactly a year ago, on April 15, 2013.
So, I hope that this category change for the Greek Wikipedia will have a catalytic effect and result in more and more people engaging with the largest encyclopedia ever created!

- It has 270,068 pages in total.
- has 22 administrators.
- has 144,582 registered users, of which 890 are active.
- has been edited 4,725,325 times.
- It has today (14/4/2014) 100,321 entries
