Twitter has announced that it is banning the posting of sexually explicit material on its Vine app,
which has been around for about a year and allows users to upload six-second videos.
Until now, users have not had any commitment to the content of the videos, resulting in the uploading of pornographic or sexually explicit content unsuitable for minors.
Now, Twitter has announced that in order to address the problem, it is prohibiting the use of specific hashtags, while also imposing a stricter age policy on users of the Vine application.
Vine's terms of use explicitly state: "Pornographic or erotic content is not permitted on the app, even if it is personal videos or audiovisual material that is characterized by its owner as sensitive.".
"We have nothing against the publication of pornographic material online. We simply do not wish to be a source for such content," Twitter's statement concludes.
