A new "smart" application for Android devices , TimePIN , comes to add a more secure locking method that is missing from the mobile operating system .
TimePIN changes the device lock code every minute , strengthening the device's security level.
When installed, the application requests administrator rights on the device because it needs to be able to modify the security PIN.
By default, TimePIN uses the current time. That is, if the time is 09:39, the code is 0939, the next minute the code will be 0940, etc.
For greater security, however, the application offers additional password formatting methods:
- Reverse, where the PIN is reversed with the logic 09:39 – 9390
- Mirror, where the PIN is formatted as eight digits as follows: 09:39 – 09399390
- Double, where the PIN is repeated, creating an eight-digit code again: 0939 – 09390939
- Offset, where the user specifies a number that is subtracted from the four-digit code resulting from the time conversion. That is, if the offset is -121 and the time is 09:39, then the PIN is 0939 -121 = 0818.
The free version of the app includes normal and reverse modes. To unlock the other three, the cost is $1.99.
If someone forgets the lock method they have set, they can unlock the application with the master PIN which is required by TimePIN, and is also used every time the device restarts.
