Quotium released an interesting infographic showing the evolution of hackers and their attacks from 1990 to 2013.
The infographic shows that in 1996, hackers took down the CIA website. Then, in 1998, they defaced the New York Times website. That same year, hackers took down 300 websites, a staggering number for the time.
In 2000, denial-of-service (DOS) attacks came to the fore. These attacks were carried out on the websites of Yahoo, Amazon, eBay, and CNN.
Judging by the large number of high-profile attacks we've seen this year, 2014 is set to be a very interesting year. Some predict that we'll have at least one major data breach for every month of 2014.
