American and British intelligence agencies are reportedly monitoring the activity of online games like “World of Warcraft.”
The above report, which came late Monday from the New York Times, the Guardian, and ProPublica, reports that spies from the US and the UK are searching online games for terrorists and informants. The story is based on documents leaked by Edward Snowden, and reveals the scope of America's spying activities, which even monitor children or teenagers.
Games like “World of Warcraft” are quite popular, attracting millions of players.
Intelligence agencies believe that such games serve as a very good cover for terrorists or other criminals who use them to exchange messages. Blizzard Entertainment, of course, stated that it is not aware that its games are monitored by intelligence agencies.
Microsoft issued a similar statement, saying it was “not aware of any surveillance activity. If it has occurred, it certainly was not done with our consent.”
