Microsoft has started distributing Windows 8.1 ISO images, despite announcing that its new operating system would only be available from the Windows Store.
The company states:
If you purchased a Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, you can download and install Windows from this page. You will have the option to install Windows now, later, or by using media with an ISO file.
You can obtain the ISOs by following these steps:
1. Follow this link and scroll to the bottom of the page. Click on “Install Windows 8” and download the upgrade assistant to your computer.
2. Run the upgrade assistant and use your (legitimate) Windows 8 activation key when prompted.
