A group of hackers calling themselves KDMS claim to have breached the major Internet service provider and web hosting company LeaseWeb. However, the company denies that its systems were compromised.
Over the weekend, the domain LeaseWeb.com was defaced. The hackers posted the following message on its website:
“Hello LeaseWeb. Who Are You? Who is but the form following the function of what and what are you is a hosting company with no security.
Do you know what that means? We owned all of your hosted sites. Index on your site is the proof.”
On the other hand, company representatives claim that the attack was nothing more than a DNS hijack that only affected leaseweb.com.
"For a short period of time, some visitors to leaseweb.com were directed to an IP address that did not belong to LeaseWeb after hackers managed to change the DNS," the company said.
“Our investigation so far shows that no other domains besides leaseweb.com were changed. Our systems were not compromised. One of the security measures we have taken is to store our customer data separately from any publicly accessible servers. We have no indication that customer data was leaked by this DNS hijack” .
The hackers claim to have gained access to customer information even after the company's statement, but they have not released any data to prove it.
