Calling Apple Maps a “navigation tool” is a serious misuse of the term.
Alaska Dispatch recently reported that following the app's directions can land you right in the middle of a runway at Fairbanks International Airport in Alaska. Directing passengers to cross an active airport runway to get to their gate is probably pretty dangerous.
Apple has announced to the airport staff that the error will soon be corrected as reported by CNET. Currently, the directions for the airport “could not be found” when the HuffPost editors tried to check the bug.
The Apple Maps service, which made its debut in June 2012, is notorious for its many malfunctions. Although the service can be considered extremely dangerous despite Apple's fixes, the company continues to include it in new iOS releases.
