Usually, when we leave our homes, we lock our doors. We take this simple and, perhaps, the most common measure to help protect our home, our family, and our belongings. However, when we surf the internet, we fail to observe simple and basic things for our safety.
Today, on Safer Internet Day (SID), we want to remind everyone how important it is to use the Internet responsibly. Safer Internet Day was an idea of Insafe and was supported by the European Union. This year marks the tenth anniversary of SID and, once again, Microsoft is playing an active role.
Microsoft just released an infographic dedicated to this day.
Microsoft's advice and guidance for staying safe online starts with four key steps:
• The firewall is meant to stay “on” and not “off”
• Installing and maintaining antivirus software
• Installing and maintaining anti-spyware software
• Enabling “on” for updates and always using automatic updates
