Samsung is set to release a new software update for the Galaxy Note 7 that will limit battery charging to 60 percent.

Samsung has had a tough time with its exploding Galaxy Note 7 smartphones. It has already lost $22 billion in market valuation over the Galaxy Note 7 push. According to reports, Samsung has found a hack to stop the battery exploding in one of its best models.

Samsung is planning to release a software update for its Galaxy Note7 smartphones that will prevent them from overheating by limiting battery charge to 60%. Samsung announced the software update through a front-page advertisement in Seoul Shinmun, a popular South Korean daily newspaper. Samsung advertisement announces the software update program for any Note 7 users who may have ignored the recall notice and continued to use the smartphone.

“This is a measure to put consumer safety first, but we apologize for the inconvenience caused,” Samsung Electronics said in a statement. The update for South Korean users will begin at 2 a.m. on Sept. 20, the company said.

South Korean media earlier reported the software update plan, citing Samsung. It was not clear when the update might be released overseas. Yonhap news agency reported that Samsung is in talks with mobile to implement the same update plan to keep battery power at 60 percent or lower at all times.

Samsung plans to start shipping new Note 7s with batteries that won't overheat on September 19. It has recalled 2.5 million devices after dozens of cases of explosions or fires. Samsung says the problem stems from a defect in the battery's manufacturing.
