A market study by one of the world’s largest publishers of programming-related books, Packt Publishing, shows that Python and JavaScript are currently the most popular programming languages, with Java coming in third place.
The company gathered the data through a survey that compiled responses from over 11,000 respondents who accessed its various services. The data includes details about the programming language developers use, where they use that language, their favorite framework, as well as general salary information.
The survey showed that - based on what programmers use day to day - the ranking of the top 10 programming languages consists of Python, JavaScript, Java, PHP, HTML (although it is not a programming language), C #, SQL, CSS, C ++, and R.
We saw the particular preference that everyone shows for Python and JavaScript in a similar survey that was conducted last year.
In terms of salaries, this list is very diverse. Developers reported that languages like Bash, Perl, and Scala made over $80,000 a year, while PHP and C made just $40,000.
In terms of Web-dev tools, AngularJS is the queen, followed by Facebook's React.js framework, Node.js, Docker, Laravel, Bootstrap, WordPress, and AWS.
