French company uses Windows 10 to make its own Surface table
French company Kineti has launched a multi-touch Windows 10 coffee table known as "La Table Kineti" that can be yours for $5,500.
This form factor may be new for Microsoft's latest operating system, but computers built into tables are nothing new. Back in 2014, 3M and Ideum created a 46-inch Android table and offered it for $6,950. It was around this time that Redmond released the original Microsoft Surface, which later became the PixelSense.
The "La Table Kineti" coffee table is made of wood and aluminum and features an unbreakable (1920x1080px) 42-inch Full HD screen integrated into its surface. It is waterproof and features 12-point multi-touch.
The table, which has a PC built into it, is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor with Intel HD Graphics 6000 technology and has 8GB of RAM and a 120GB SSD. A single USB 3.0 port is available for connectivity, while it also has built-in Bluetooth and WiFi.
It works like any regular coffee table, but it has special software that allows you to share content to and from your tablet or TV using simple gestures. It also allows you to control your home automation components. Kineti has developed its own appropriate software for these functions.
While this may sound expensive, it's interesting that its price is less than half of the Kapsch Interactive 40 table-PCs focused primarily on businesses, which cost around $13,300 (€12,000).
