ARM, the company responsible for millions of connected mobile devices around the world, believes that mobile is definitely the future when it comes to graphics.
According to the company, mobile graphics processors have already outperformed existing chips inside gaming consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and while that's certainly impressive, it will take some time for these processors to outperform current-generation consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
ARM states that mobile chips will become so advanced in the future that they will feature improved image performance enough for mobile users to enjoy impressive game graphics without worrying about battery life for a long time.
ARM also believes that mobile graphics will surpass their counterparts, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, by 2017. While that's a long time away and it's likely that the successors to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will have caught up by then, it's still a very impressive feat that we hope to witness. While mobile games are easier to develop and generate more revenue compared to the budgets of PC and console titles, their biggest drawback is the experience they offer to users.
Unlike a keyboard, mouse, or joystick, smartphones and tablets are not able to provide users with this satisfying tactile feedback, unless of course you have purchased additional gaming accessories, such as a joystick.
However, we believe that future mobile products will have a different form of touch screen, which will provide a similar tactile feedback to what you feel when you press a key or buttons. Microsoft has said that it is working on a screen that will feel like the user is actually pressing a physical button on the screen, but it will obviously take some time before such devices appear on the market. As ARM has stated, mobile graphics take some time to develop.
