This DARPA drone can fly around corners at 45 miles per hour / 20 meters per second
Drones are becoming increasingly popular, as well as faster as time goes by! In fact, we had reported on a drone race from the Drone League last month. Now another drone wants to break some records. This time it is from DARPA.
DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, announced Friday that it has achieved a new milestone in the development of a fast, lightweight, and self-navigable unmanned aircraft .The DARPA craft is equipped with sensors and can reach speeds of up to 40 mph, or 20 meters per second, while flying inside an old warehouse.
In reality, the DARPA aircraft could maneuver through turns and avoid objects with ease, while flying at terrifying speed. In another test in the aircraft storage hangar, the craft could detect boxes in its path and was able to fly around them.
DARPA says that its drone is a work in progress, as there is some jitteriness in its movement. And yes, there could be many crashes on the road, far too many.
“We are excited to be able to validate the airspeed target during this first flight data collection,” said Mark Micire, the manager . “The fact that some teams also demonstrated basic autonomous flight capabilities ahead of schedule was an added bonus.”
All that's left is to watch the developments that are certainly coming!
