The next generation iPhones will have… Li-Fi instead of Wi-Fi! This is the future!
A newly discovered iOS code suggests that future iPhone models could include Li-Fi technology, which boasts high-speed data transfer rates that are 100x faster than a standard Wi-Fi connection. For those unfamiliar with Li-Fi, it's a technology that can transmit data via light.

Apple has dropped some hints that future iPhone models will likely be at the forefront of the 'Li-Fi' movement. Since data is transmitted at extremely high speeds using pulsed light waves, the technology could be used in the future to replace Wi-Fi.
Under controlled laboratory conditions, researchers were able to achieve Li-Fi speeds of 224 gigabits per second, which is fast enough to download a mixed HD cinema in less than two seconds. With Li-Fi, the same bright light bulb that lights up your living room can also be used to transmit data to your phone. This is because Li-Fi uses visible light. However, the lights can also be dimmed to such an extent that they are not noticeable to users, but still transmit data.

In iOS 9.1, library cache files within the OS list “LiFi Capabilities” alongside other capabilities. With Li-Fi, light from a source is received by a light sensor, which converts it into an electronic signal that is read by the phone.
