In the presence of the Minister of Public Order and Citizen Protection, Vassilis Kikilias and the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Andreas Loverdos and the Deputy Ministers of Education and Religious Affairs, Alexandros Dermentzopoulos and Georgios Stylios, the Cyberkid program, which concerns the safe navigation of students on the internet, was implemented today for the first time in schools by the Director of the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, Brigadier General Manolis Sfakianakis.
In an interactive videoconference with 600 schools, most of them in Attica, the “Cyberkid” application was presented, which is available for computers, as well as smartphones, tablets, Android and IOS. “CyberKid” is a website where students can learn about safe browsing and the dangers of the internet, as well as play online games.
This application enables children to communicate directly and in real time in case of danger or threat with Officers of the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate through the use of an innovative (touchscreen call) process "Cyber Alert", but also through sending an electronic message. The Officers will manage the danger or threat, which comes via the internet with modern procedures and through a Modern Cyber Threat Management Center (CYBER ALERT), which will be based in the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate.
The information will continue in the near future in all schools in the country, in the same way, with the aim of informing all students nationwide by next April.
The Minister of Public Order and Citizen Protection, Mr. Vasilis Kikilias, stated: "I am very happy to be with you today and that we all welcome an innovative action, designed by the Prosecution of Electronic Crime and concerning our security on the Internet.
And here I must thank the Leadership of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs for the very important cooperation we have had, from the beginning of this effort. It is an effort that was crowned with success, thanks to the continuous effort, perseverance and patience of all the executives of the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate.
The questions that come to us daily are many and certainly through two-way communication we can provide answers. We want our children to take advantage of the possibilities of the Internet and learn to protect themselves. We want our children to understand what virtual reality means, surfing the Internet, and when such a process is safe. We want them to learn when they are at risk from pedophiles and abusers, from blackmailers, when to set limits to any form of cyberbullying. We learn not to fall for the traps of the Internet.
"The internet is a wonderful world, it is a technological advancement and achievement, which our children should not ignore. We want to be helpful in every effort of young people.".
The Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, during his introductory statement, said the following: "We are pleased to begin the Cyberkid presentation program in schools. We want all children to use the Internet in a safe way for their physical and mental integrity. For the process of their education, upbringing, and training, which despite the difficulties the Greek state is trying to provide. This way of security is not easy for our Ministry to exist. However, here is a living Minister, Mr. Kikilias and Mr. Sfakianakis, who have many useful things to tell you. Today 600 schools and by April in all, all students should use the Internet through the Cyberkid website. I thank Mr. Kikilias and Mr. Sfakianakis, who are here today. I assure you that everything we have said in Parliament has been put into practice. Teachers involved in these processes are placed outside the education system.".
