Anonymous claims to have managed to hack into the systems of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. As a result of the breach, a large number of documents have been leaked online.
According to the hacktivists, the attack was carried out through the breach of a Ukrainian telecommunications company, which was referred to by the hackers as “EuroTraceTelcom”.
The hackers said that the first part of the massive document leak is dedicated to the Ukrainian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Alexander Mishchenko.
“We started with data on the Ukrainian Embassy in Azerbaijan, because we are concerned about the trade agreement between the two countries, which concerns the exploitation of oil and natural gas. We know that a large part of the agreement has to do with the former Prime Minister of Ukraine – Tymoshenko,” the hacktivists wrote on cyberguerrilla.org.
“Azerbaijani oil groups are closely related to the deal with Tymoshenko and the Ukrainian Embassy keeps much of this secret. So we decided to shake them up a bit by leaking this data,” they added.
A preview of the leaked files has been posted on imgur.com, which contains various documents, a copy of a US citizen's passport, as well as some photos.
