Christmas DDoS attacks by Phantom Squad

Through extensive DDoS attacks, the Phantom Squad managed to take down the servers of the video game production company Electronic Arts (EA).

The hackers, who had already made their intentions known by announcing planned DDoS attacks against the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network networks between December 24 and December 31, started with a small attack on EA's servers.

The mysterious group is following in the footsteps of Lizard Squad last year, sowing panic among gamers this year as well, as they have been carrying out short-term DDoS attacks against the Xbox Live and PSN networks since early December.

[alert]A few days earlier, two more groups, VandaSec and PhantomSec, declared their support for the actions of the Phantom Squad.[/alert]

Earlier this month, unknown hackers attacked the Steam network, as well as servers for popular games such as Grand Theft Auto 5, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. The attacks were again very brief.

Having reached December 24th, we now see that the Phantom Squad are not joking and have already launched a very powerful DDoS attack on EA's servers, taking them down for at least the last five hours.

The attack was so serious that the company was forced to inform its customers via its Twitter account.

Once EA admitted the attacks, PhantomSquad stopped the DDoS, and announced via Twitter that they were launching new attacks against the PlayStation Network. Shortly after, some users started reporting problems with the PSN. The attack does not seem to be very powerful, while the service is experiencing glitches.
