Robotic Room Service is Coming! The InterContinental hotel group announced the trial operation of a robot, serving guests at the Crowne Plaza San Jose-Silicon Valley hotel.

If the "Room Service experiment" is successful, then the brand is expected to introduce the robot to other of its units.
The robot is called Dash and was created by Savioke, a California-based company that specializes in building robotic solutions for the hospitality industry.
Dash will further enhance the guest experience at the Crowne Plaza brand, providing fast and seamless service for transporting snacks, toothbrushes and other products to customers.
Standing 3 feet 3 inches tall and weighing less than 100 pounds, it is designed to move at a human walking pace and can navigate between floors on its own, even calling the hotel elevator using a special Wi-Fi connection.
Dash is Savioke's latest form of automated services. It features automated connectivity, improved autonomy, and a new design to better respond to customer requests.
When the robot arrives in the room, it calls the guest to announce its arrival, offers them the products they have requested and returns to the reception where it automatically connects to the charging station.
"Due to the hotel's location in Silicon Valley, (the robot) fits perfectly with our quest to upgrade our service program by adding the latest in robotic technology," said Gina LaBarre, Vice President, Americas Brand Management, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, IHG.
We expect our customers to be impressed by Dash's technological excellence and its ability to deliver quality services representative of the brand, he said.
On behalf of Savioke, CEO Steve Cousins said: “The hotel has more than 300 rooms and is the largest hotel to use our technology.”
