Global interest in crowdfunding campaign for Greek debt – Indiegogo collapsed!

crowdfunding

– “Greek Bailout Fund: Unprecedented campaign on Indiegogo for the repayment of Greek debt – Target 1,600,000,000 euros.

– The campaign has managed to raise over 540,000 euros in just two days

– Public interest in the campaign brought Indiegogo down for several hours

A 29-year-old from Yorkshire, England, has decided to provide his own solution to the Greek debt issue, starting a campaign for financial aid for Greece on Indiegogo. The theory of the British Thom Feeney is simple: The 1.6 billion that Greece needs may seem excessive, but if all the citizens of Europe pay €3 (an amount that, as the 29-year-old says, corresponds to… a salad with feta cheese and olives), then the debt will be eliminated!

With this in mind and through the crowdfunding campaign entitled “Greek Bailout Fund”, Thom Feeney invites Europeans to help save Greece.

“The European Union is home to 503 million people, if we all contribute a few euros, then we can settle Greece's debt and get it back on track soon,” says the 29-year-old.

Surprisingly, the project is proving popular: On Tuesday night, thousands of people rushed to help reach the 1.6 billion goal, causing the website to crash!

Indiegogo attributed the connectivity problems to the unprecedented public interest in the campaign, informing users via Twitter:

Access to the page has now been restored, and would-be donors once again have the opportunity to contribute their bit to saving Greece, by contributing a small or larger amount and receiving a gift with the scent of Greece in return.

"For 3 euros you can get a postcard with a photo of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, for 6 euros you get a village salad, for 10 euros a bottle of ouzo and for 25 euros a bottle of Assyrtiko wine," says the campaign's creator.

And for those who think the campaign is a joke, Feeney responds: "I understand why people might take it as a joke, but crowdfunding can really help. I'm tired of the Greek crisis issue, the debt spiral, and the indecisiveness of politicians, all of which affects billions of real people.".

"It's time to find a solution to the problem ourselves!", emphasizes the 29-year-old.

At this point, we should mention that Finney has set a funding target of 1.6 billion euros, an amount that must be raised within the week, while he has also activated the fixed funding clause, which means that the money will only be made available if the funding target is met. In any other case, the money will be returned to donors.
