Blackberry smartphone with Android is coming – Blackberry is planning a career change, as reports suggest the company is considering the possibility of building a new smartphone that will “run” Google’s popular operating system. The company had presented a smartphone with a sliding keyboard in March during the Mobile World Congress conference. However, it had given few details about the device.
As reported by Reuters, Blackberry's move to use Android is part of the company's strategy to focus on software and device management rather than mobile phone sales, after its market share shrank in the first quarter of 2015.
As for the question of whether the shift to Android will also mean the end of devices that will integrate the Blackberry 10 operating system, it remains unanswered. Blackberry 10 became available in 2013, but it did not become the company's strong point and failed to stand up to Android.
"We do not respond to rumors and speculation, but we remain committed to the Blackberry 10 operating system, which provides unparalleled features for security and productivity," the company said in a statement.
BlackBerry CEO John Chen has pinned the company's hopes on its new device management system, dubbed BES12, which will allow enterprise and government customers to manage BlackBerry devices as well as those running Android, iOS and Windows mobile operating systems. One of the hurdles the company faces with this transition is convincing its large customers that the new device management software will work across a variety of platforms, according to Reuters.
By making an Android device available, the company will send a strong message to skeptics that the BES12 system can not only manage but also provide security to smartphones and tablets that incorporate competing operating systems.
