A regular procedure case was filed against the owner of the company that distributed the preparation, based in Ireland
There were previous complaints, according to which, on various Internet websites, a product - preparation is being advertised, which concerns losing weight in a very short period of time
In addition, a complaint regarding the illegal preparation was filed by a local resident, according to which photographs of her were being illegally used, in which she was depicted with perfect body proportions, as an alleged result of its use.
The Hellenic Police's Cybercrime Directorate (DIE) investigated a case of illegal trafficking and sale, via the Internet, of an unapproved pharmaceutical preparation. A case file was opened, under regular procedure, for illegal trafficking, sale and sale via the Internet, of a pharmaceutical product, not approved by the National Medicines Organization (EOF), against the owner of the company, based in Ireland.
Specifically, the investigation into the case began following complaints received by the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, according to which, on various Internet websites, a product - preparation is being advertised, which concerns losing weight in a very short period of time.
According to the allegations, the victims, after being convinced of the alleged harmless effects of the preparation, proceeded to order it. However, after consuming it, many of them experienced adverse reactions.
Furthermore, a relevant complaint regarding the said preparation was submitted by a Greek national, according to which photographs of her were being illegally used, in which she was depicted with perfect body proportions, as an alleged result of the use of the said preparation.
Following correspondence with the competent department of the National Medicines Organization (E.O.F.) of the Ministry of Health, it emerged that the presentation, distribution and sale of this specific pharmaceutical preparation is not legalized by the E.O.F. and is therefore being distributed illegally.
The Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office was informed of the above and a preliminary examination and investigation was ordered. A thorough and in-depth digital - online investigation followed, by the Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime (DIE). In this context, correspondence was carried out with the competent management companies as well as with the relevant internet service providers and the specific websites, through which the illegal preparation is advertised and distributed.
More specifically, it was identified that the method and source of distribution of the illegal preparation is carried out by a company based in Dublin, Ireland. Subsequently, the National Medicines Organization (EOF) was again notified for further actions that fall within its jurisdiction.
The regular procedure file drawn up for the case will be submitted to the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office, in execution of the orders, for the necessary legal actions.
