A little over four years since its launch, the “bundles” feature is being discontinued by Bitly.
More than 80% of the bundles contained spam.
Bundles allowed users to share multiple links with a single Bitly URL – saving time when “minifying” a large group of links.
Although the uses of bundles were quite high, Bitly says that they weren't exactly what they had in mind when they designed the service. In fact, they provide some interesting statistics about the uses of Bundles:
Less than 2% of Bitlinks were used in bundles
Bundles had less than 3% of pageviews
Almost 25% of bundles were private
Bundles were also subject to abuse:
More than 80% of bundles contained spam.
Bundles were often used as containers of controversial content with public access.
On April 7th, bundles will go into read-only mode, meaning you will not be able to create bundles, while on May 7th they will cease to exist.
Bitly says it will replace bundles with a new solution, tags. Tags will be integrated into current Bitly services willand be able to grow with user needs.
