In fairy tales, we've known for a long time that the princess is the one who usually needs protection. You'll be surprised to learn that at Google 's headquarters in faraway Silicon Valley, the princess is the one who has taken on the responsibility of defending the "castle."
Parisa Tabriz, at just 31 years old, has managed to earn what is probably the most flattering title in engineering – “Google Security Princess.”
Its mission: To infiltrate the most popular web browser on the planet and identify vulnerabilities before the “blackhats” catch up.
But to neutralize Google's attackers, Tabriz will first have to think like them.
In this epic cyber "battle", the data of a billion Chrome users hangs in the balance, and fighter Parisa will not settle for anything less.
"When I started working, my job title was 'Information Security Engineer' and I found it somewhat boring and meaningless," Tabriz tells us.
"That's why I changed it to 'Security Princess' which is more catchy."
If you look at the line-up of Google's security staff, women are pretty rare. Tabriz admits there's a glaring racial imbalance in Silicon Valley, but this time everyone is stunned.
"Google depends on users trusting it with their data, if we can't protect it, we're out of business."
Cybercrime has come a long way in the last decade, but Tabriz's biggest concern is those who find bugs in Google's software and sell the information to governments or criminals.
To address this problem, the company has created the 'Vulnerability Rewards Program' that rewards anyone who identifies vulnerabilities from $100 to $20,000.
