Three years after its launch in one of the fastest growing sectors internationally, Corallia is recording significant results that reveal the dynamics of the entertainment and creative technologies and applications sector.
Today, a total of 40 companies and 10 research and academic institutions, more than 20 products in development and over 10 million euros in annual investments in research and development by cluster members, demonstrate the progress made by the sector in Greece. The continuous expansion of the gi-Cluster ecosystem is reflected in the increase in the number of members by 317% in these three years.
Intralot plays a leading role in the gi-Cluster. If it is removed from the total, the remaining member companies have a cumulative turnover of 100 million euros, created 55 new jobs last year and recorded a 30% increase in their turnover, with approximately 60% coming from exports.
“I believe that the creative economy, and especially the new digital media and software sectors on which we focus, is a sector with international appeal, capable of attracting talent and investment, connecting creators and entrepreneurs and being a key success factor in shaping a new economic model in Greece,” said Dr. Nikos Vogiatzis, co-founder & Chief Development & Operations Officer of Corallia and member of the gi-Cluster Coordinating Council.
The priorities for the future, as they have been designed and are to be implemented for the next five years, concern the exploitation of the "clustering effect" and the benefits that traditionally appear within related ecosystems, in order to implement development interventions, such as the development of large-scale infrastructure, the attraction of private investment, the assistance of existing and new businesses, as well as internationalization and extroversion actions.
Primary importance is also given to the interconnection of individual creative sectors of the economy with the aim of developing tourism applications and technologies, the digitization of cultural content and the creation of electronic applications of an educational and informative nature.
gi-Cluster was established in early 2012, with the support of Corallia as a facilitator, with the mission of creating a world-class, fully functional business innovation ecosystem, aimed at producing new technologies and competitive products, leveraging scientific, business and research talent from all sectors of entertainment and creative technologies and applications, substantially contributing to improving Greece's position in the international competitiveness rankings.
