The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate investigated a case of violation of intellectual property legislation and filed a relevant criminal case, under regular procedure, against a 62-year-old Greek national.

In particular, the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate was investigating a case involving an unknown individual, an internet who, using a pseudonym, illegally reproduced, presented and made available to other users, without the required permission, electronic books by publishers and authors - members of the Organization for the Collective Management of Literary Works (OSDEL).

In the context of digital analysis, it emerged that the distribution was carried out through special files (torrent), which the perpetrator uploaded from his account to specific websites, on which he was registered under a pseudonym.

The Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office was informed of the above and a relevant order was issued to conduct a preliminary examination and identify the perpetrator.

The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate conducted an extensive and thorough digital investigation and analysis of the digital data and evidence of the case, and the 62-year-old's involvement in the case emerged.

During a home search, in the presence of a prosecutor, conducted by a police team at the 62-year-old's home, it was identified that he is the owner and administrator of the email address with the specific pseudonym, through which this specific criminal activity was taking place.

Furthermore, during the investigation, an external hard drive, with a capacity of 1 TB, was found and seized, containing a large number of books (approximately 23,300 books), which will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for laboratory tests.
