A list of usernames and passwords in plain text for more than 1,800 Minecraft game accounts has been publicly leaked.
The news site Heise reports that it is unclear how the database was compiled, but it appears that some of the users whose details were leaked are from Germany.
The publication also informs that the cybercriminals who leaked the credentials also published proof of the validity of the accounts.
In addition to the fact that the log-in can be used to download the full version of the game (priced at $23/€19.95), they can also be used in the game by any user who can act on behalf of the legal owner.
However, with every such leak comes a more important issue: password repeatability. It is a well-known fact that many users use the same password to log in to other online accounts.
Cybercriminals are aware of this common but risky practice and often try the leaked login credentials on other online accounts.
An incident of this kind has recently been recorded by the airlines United and American. Specifically, in the case of the latter, the accounts of more than 10,000 customers were compromised and they lost the miles they had accumulated.
