seems to be particularly important Cybercrime Prosecution with regard to the allegations of the attempted bribery of Pavlos Chaikalis by a former German Bank executive. According to the information brought to the attention of the judiciary by MP Pavlos Chaikalis, a person known in political-economic circles was named who allegedly offered money, promises and gold bars to actor-MP Pavlos Chaikalis.
The information voluntarily provided to the prosecutor by the MP is audiovisual material obtained by technical means (wristwatch - recorder) from the complainant, which records a conversation with a person who is alleged to have attempted to bribe him.
The competent prosecutor and the president of the appeals prosecutor's office reportedly requested theassistance of the Cybercrime Prosecution Service, to which the disputed material was forwarded. According to reliable information, during the first examination of the material by the competent officers, it was not possible to identify the person who has been recorded, due to the poor reception. Using the necessary software and specialized personnel in audiovisual recognition and analysis of material, the Cybercrime Prosecution Service and the forensic laboratories will attempt to verify the person who has been recorded so that it constitutes evidence beyond any doubt. The Minister of Citizen Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, has requested that the laboratory examination of the disputed video be completed within a maximum period of one week in order to certify its authenticity, even if it is the product of private video recording.
It is clear that for a very large number of current affairs issues, the analysis of digital evidence and the contribution of the DIE are now extremely important. With the Chaikalis case, which stirred up the waters of current affairs, it is clear that technology plays the leading role both in gathering data and in verifying details and indications of guilt or innocence in various cases of public life. We believe that the strengthening of these services, both in terms of human resources and technological infrastructure, is perhaps the most remarkable decision that has been taken in the last 15 years by the respective political leadership of the competent Ministries.
