According to the latest news, Innolux, which is owned by Foxconn, plans to build a new 6th generation factory worth $2.6 billion, which will provide displays exclusively for Apple. The two companies reached this agreement after an urgent appeal from Apple to Foxconn, with the agreement announced on Thursday.
The new factory will start exclusive panel production for Apple by the end of 2015. The installation of the machines will begin next month, after Innolux received an urgent request from Apple for exclusive production. Foxconn Technology Group is expected to spend $2.6 billion over the next two years on the factory, which will employ 2,300 workers.
The remaining details of the deal have not yet been revealed, such as the display technology they will manufacture or which devices they will be used in. But in recent years, Innolux has seemingly gradually displaced Samsung as a display supplier.
Innolux is the largest LCD display manufacturer in Taiwan, and Apple uses LCD technology for most of its products, such as the iPhone, iPad, MacBooks, and iMac.
