The roughly 3,000 job cuts are believed to be largely in areas such as human resources, finance, sales and marketing, and IT. They are part of the 18,000 employees that Microsoft in July would be laid off over the course of a year.
In July, Microsoft announced planned job cuts of 18,000 people, with 12,500 of those cuts coming from Microsoft acquired as part of the Nokia acquisition. The second round of cuts, about 2,100 employees, was completed in September. A final wave of cuts is expected in early 2015, sources said. Given that Microsoft has already laid off about 18,000 employees, this time the number will be very small.
Microsoft laid off 13,000 employees in total in July. This wave included some, but not all, Nokia employees. It also included employees from the Operating Systems Group and from every team across the company.
