The new ATMs will allow users to make withdrawals by simply placing their finger on a special infrared reader that can both read and recognize them... from the veins in their hand!
According to Hitachi, this system uses cutting-edge light transmission technology, sending infrared light which is absorbed by the finger, thus creating a unique pattern for each user.
Poland is expected to become the first country in Europe to implement this technology, with 2,000 new ATMs in banks and supermarkets across the country in the coming months. Japan is already seeing the technology, with some Japanese banks also using it as a security measure for safes.
Finally, for extra security, the machines can recognize whether the finger being placed belongs to a living person..
