More than 69% of young Iranians use software to bypass internet censorship, according to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Sports and Youth.
"69.3% use proxy servers (software that allows censorship to be bypassed) on the internet," said the head of the ministry's Research Center, Mohammad Tayyip Hassanzadeh, according to the ISNA news agency.
The survey was conducted between March 2013 and March 2014 on a sample of 15,000 Iranians aged 15 to 29.
According to it, 67.4% of the young people surveyed use the internet. 19.1% use it to discuss, 15.3% to use social networking sites, and 15.2% to have fun. Only 10.4% of those surveyed use it for scientific research.
It is recalled that the Iranian authorities implement a policy of "filtering" the internet, which prevents - under normal circumstances - Iranians from accessing millions of political, informational or sexual websites, as well as social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter or YouTube.
But now Iranians can easily find devices in stores that allow them to create Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) at affordable prices and bypass censorship.
