The dark web is widely used for criminal activities of all kinds and the trafficking of illegal products or services. Now that the operation of the famous Silk Road has been suspended by the FBI, Agora has emerged as the largest clandestine darknet.
According to a new report recently released by the Digital Citizens Alliance, there are at least 16,137 products for sale on this website, with the largest percentage (more than 12,000 products) related to drugs.
Agora has 200 more listings than Silk Road 2, which puts the black market at the top of the list.
Researchers at the Digital Citizens Alliance say Agora is growing extremely quickly, having only had 7,400 product listings just four months ago. However, after the Silk Road hack in February, Agora's usage has begun to grow rapidly.
The website offers a wide range of categories and products. For example, users can sell weapons, drugs, malware, and more. However, Agora has some limitations compared to other black markets.
Agora prohibits the sale of stolen property, assassination services, weapons of mass destruction, poisons, child pornography, and live video, audio, or images of murders.
The site's popularity has grown largely due to the tactic it has used since its inception, allowing users to invite other members with special codes. Even though it's fairly easy to obtain such a code, members feel like they're part of some kind of exclusive group.
