Dropbox, Box, and other popular cloud services are being affected by the ongoing battle between Google and Amazon, as the two companies continually lower their cloud prices in an attempt to outdo each other.
“These companies will drive prices to zero. Expect Google or Amazon to continue to drive prices down for you. But ‘free’ is not a business model,” said Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box, expressing his concerns.
The New York Times reports that companies like Dropbox, Lighttail, and Box are struggling to stay afloat as Amazon and Google engage in a price war. While the two giants can afford to cut prices because they have several alternative sources of revenue, companies like the aforementioned cannot.
And while the war of interests rages on, the two dominant companies have reduced the prices of their respective services by alarming rates, trying to attract new customers.
