Based on information collected from honeypots installed in public cloud infrastructures around the world, security firm Alert Logic has proven that most cyberattacks against the United States originate from China, the United States, India, and Russia.
Honeypots are collaborative decoy computers that act like traps. Their purpose is to detect attacks and collect information about the methods attackers use to penetrate systems.
The company's research showed that 32% of attacks targeting the United States are carried out with the help of computer systems located in China.
The US comes in second on the list, with 21% of the computers used being located within the country. However, this does not mean that the attackers themselves are located in the US, only the systems they use.
India follows with 17% and Russia with 9%. Alert Logic's attack map shows that computers in countries such as Korea, Romania, Vietnam and Brazil also participate in cyberattacks at rates ranging from 6% to 2%.
Regarding Europe, the largest percentage of attacks (40%) come from systems in Russia, followed by North and South America.
