Dick Costolo, the CEO of Twitter, announced Wednesday that the social network is suspending all accounts that posted photos from the horrific video showing the beheading of photojournalist James Foley.
Costolo announced via Twitter: "We have been and are active in suspending accounts we discover are associated with this graphic depiction."
According to the newspaper NewYorkTimes, the 40-year-old Foley was abducted in Syria two years ago, while working as an independent journalist. His traces have been scarce since then. On Tuesday, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria published a gruesome video on YouTube showing the beheading of Foley. The authenticity of the video has not yet been verified and YouTube has removed it.
