NASA announced that by the end of September this year, the agency will have built the first space telescope, which will be almost entirely... 3D printed.
According to NASA aerospace engineer Jason Budinoff, the telescope is just one of many projects that rely on 3D printing technology and is expected to be implemented within the organization’s Internal Research and Development (IRAD) program.
Budinoff is also developing a fully functional 50mm camera, which will be made from 3D-printed parts and could in the future be used on Cubesat satellites, which have recently been sent to the International Space Station (ISS).
This specific project opens the road for future 3D printed projects, highlighting the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of 3D printing technology.
