New virus infects computers through scary videos

1The attention of internet users is drawn by the Cybercrime Division of the Hellenic Police as a new virus has been identified, which appeared on the internet on May 10, 2014 and spreads through various horror videos. The virus infects computers at the moment users try to open the malicious videos.

Specifically, once this malicious software is installed it gains the ability to perform various illegal actions, without the user's knowledge, such as disabling system security settings and more specifically the firewall, so that it can open backdoors (backdoors) for other infected programs.

Symptoms
It also interferes with the browser and the performance of the computer itself, changing the home page and the default search engine (of the browser).

Simultaneously, unwanted advertising banners start appearing, pages with subscription messaging services and malicious files for download. Finally, there is the possibility of password interception and other malicious actions (such as sending spam emails, etc.)

It is noted that in the Facebook news feed, posts appear that look like "videos" with strange - shocking content, urging users to click on the post in order to watch the "video".

Titles to avoid

The malicious posts appear with various titles such as: Vin Diesel Has Died While Filming a Deadly Scene From Fast and Furious 7, You Won't Believe What This Pregnant Girl Does, [SCHOCK] Schlimmster Motorrad Unfall Der Welt (Shock! The worst motorcycle accident in the world), Girl Killed herself live On Cam Just After Dad Seen Her While Doing This on cam!, with the following titles being most common:
Alleged footage of an “actual” ghost attack.
A video featuring the Aswang that is described as “a mythical shape-shifting were-dog/vampire/terrifying thing from the Philippines.”
A video of Mermaids claiming they are back!
Video of a huge great white shark tearing apart a sea captain.

The trap:
When a user clicks on these posts, they are usually first asked to share the post on their "wall" in order to unlock the "video" (thus participating in the spread of the malicious posts).

Next, a message appears that you must download or upgrade the video player of the browser, in order to be able to view the «video». If the user proceeds with this action, the corresponding malicious file is installed, as mentioned below in the photos.

It is recalled that for similar incidents, citizens can contact the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate at the following contact details:
By telephone at 11012 and 210-6476464
By sending an e-mail to ccu@cybercrimeunit.gov.gr, 11012@hellenicpolice.gr
