Bitly bit.ly ), the popular URL shortening service, has issued an urgent security alert regarding a security breach in which account credentials were exposed.
The company says it has found no evidence that the accounts have been compromised by the attackers. However, as a precautionary measure, the company has disconnected the users' Facebook and Twitter accounts.
"We have canceled all Facebook and Twitter credentials," the blog post states.
Despite the fact that social media accounts appear to be linked to Bitly accounts, users will not be able to post anything until they reconnect the accounts.
Users are asked to follow the steps below to reset their OAuth tokens and API keys:
1) Log in to your account and click on "Your Settings", then select the "Advanced" tab.
2) At the bottom of the “Advanced” tab, select “Reset” next to “Legacy API key”. 3) Copy your new API keys and change them across all your apps. This can include publishing options, share buttons, and mobile apps.
4) Go to the “Profile” tab and reset your password.
5) Log out and log back in to all apps that use bitly. You can check which accounts are connected in the “Connected Accounts” tab under the “Your Settings” tab.
