Samsung Electronics supports the development of digital skills in Europe, as a necessary resource to fill the 900,000 estimated job vacancies by 2015 in the Information and Communications Technology sector.
Samsung was a Gold Sponsor of the conference, which was held yesterday by the Hellenic Association of Information & Communications Enterprises (SEPE). Samsung's aim is to highlight the importance of developing digital skills, which will be valuable tools for young people in their future job search. Samsung actively supports access to modern technologies, contributing significantly to the training of young people, through its participation in actions such as InnovAthens, the new innovation and entrepreneurship hub created by the Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens in collaboration with Athens Synergies and Samsung.
As Sang Woo Kim, President of Corporate Affairs at Samsung Electronics Europe, said: “In Europe, we face the paradox between high levels of youth unemployment and an estimated 900,000 job vacancies in the ICT sector by 2015. Samsung wants to play a major role in providing training opportunities for young people. That is why between 2013 and 2019, Samsung’s programs will benefit more than 400,000 young people in 31 countries across Europe. This is our commitment to the European Union’s Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs initiative.”.
Mr. ChoongSoon Lee, President of Samsung Electronics Hellas, stated: "We believe in the talent and potential of young people. Our goal is to ensure that all young people have access to smart technologies and the opportunity to develop digital skills. These skills will be the necessary tools that will support their transition from education to employment.".
The Head of Corporate Citizenship Europe of Samsung Electronics, Mr. Wouter Bram Von Tol, participated in the workshop panel “Turning e-skills into jobs”, explaining how the use of digital skills can be the catalyst for a successful career path.
Additionally, during the conference, Samsung gave participants the opportunity to be informed and be the first to register for the InnovAthens workshops. The first cycle starts on May 13 and concerns the provision of skills in developing applications for Smart TVs, technical knowledge related to smartphone repair, as well as the seminar on "Communication skills for presenting business ideas in English", which will be held in collaboration with the British Council.
