Google is helping you travel back in time with a brand new feature that allows users to browse older photos taken for Google Maps.
"Starting today, you can travel back in time to see how a place has changed over the years by exploring Street View imagery in Google Maps for desktop. We've gathered historical imagery from older Street View, dating back to 2007, to create this digital time capsule of the world," the company says.
We may not be going back many years, but it's interesting to see how cities around the world have changed since Google started mapping the world.
This feature is not available in all countries, but where it is available, a clock icon will appear in the upper left corner of the Street View image. By clicking on it, users will be able to see the same location in previous years.
“Now with Street View, you can see the development of any location from scratch, like the Freedom Tower in New York or the stadium that will host the 2014 World Cup in Fortaleza, Brazil. This new feature can also serve as a digital timeline of recent history: you can, for example, see the reconstruction after the devastating 2011 earthquake or the tsunami in Onagawa, Japan,” Google adds.
