Google it is now encrypting Gmail messages and re-encrypting data centers with an extra layer of security to prevent government and criminal surveillance, but it has not said whether it is extending this protection to other apps.
When asked for clarification, the company declined to comment. A Google spokesperson said via email: “We don’t have any more details to share beyond the Gmail news, but we are working to strengthen and encrypt more services.”
Google 's reluctance to clarify the encryption of its other apps is doing it a disservice to enterprise customers who rely on it for workplace communication, cloud storage and collaboration, analysts said.
